In Memoriam - Lewis E. Platt

Mr. Platt, the former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard Company, was a great influence on the principals of Rein Capital and was instrumental in the crafting and evolution of the Proactivity strategy practiced by the firm. His insights and depth of experience led to the conviction that Proactivity represented the future of effective venture funding, and he tirelessly advocated the firm’s commitment to this path. His unflagging enthusiasm and sage advice have been essential and invaluable to the principals of Rein Capital. More than any specific contribution, his honesty and integrity and high moral standing were highly valued and his genuine friendship will continue to be treasured by all who were touched by him.

 

Thomas E. McInerney

Mr. McInerney serves as a General Partner in Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS), an approximately $10B buyout fund focused on the information services and health care sectors. Previously, Mr. McInerney was President of the Brokerage Services Division at ADP and later was appointed Group Vice President—Financial Services, with responsibility for the ADP divisions that serve the securities, commodities, bank, thrift and electronic funds transfer industries. In 1982 he co-founded Dama Telecommunications Corporation, a voice and data communications services company, where he was the President and CEO until leaving to join WCAS in September 1986.

 

Morton L. Topfer

Mr. Topfer is managing director of Castletop Capital. Previously, he served at Dell in both the role of vice chairman and as counselor to Dell's chief executive officer, advising in matters of critical importance to the company. Prior to his service at Dell from 1994 to 2002, Mr. Topfer served 23 years at Motorola, Inc. where he held several executive positions that spanned the full range of Motorola's global business. Before that, he spent 11 years at RCA laboratories in various research and development, and management positions, during which time he wrote a book on thick-film electronics. He began his professional career as a research engineer with Kollsman Instruments Corporation in New York. Mr. Topfer was conferred the Darjah Johan Negeri Penang State Award in July 1996 by the Governor of Penang for contributions to the development of the electronics industry in Malaysia. He serves as a director for Alliance Gaming and Bio Reference Laboratories. Mr. Topfer also serves on the advisory board of Singapore Technologies.

 

Colin Crook

Mr. Crook is an independent expert on global technology and advanced business concepts and provides selective advice to global businesses, governments and academic institutions.

Mr. Crook recently retired from the position of Chief Technologist, Citicorp, where he reported to the Chairman, John Reed. Mr. Crook was the primary architect of Citicorp’s technology strategy. Previously he served in senior technology and business management roles for Motorola and British Telecom Enterprises.
